A Case of Granulocytic Sarcoma(Chloroma) in Right upper eye lid

Abstract
Extramedullary solid tumors of early myeloid precursors are a rare but well-doc-
umented variant of acute myelocytic leukemia. Originally the term chloroma was applied
to these tumors because of their green color. However, because such tumors often have
no distinct coloration the term granulocytic sarcoma has been suggested by Rappaport.
Clinically, orbital mass leading to proptosis or spinal canal lesions resulting in
neurologic manifestations are two of the clinical prsentation associated with this tumor.
Recently we experienced a case of granulocytic sarcoma of the right upper eye lid.
This 4 year old girl visited to department of the ophthalmology because of the
mechanical ptosis for 2 weeks. She has been known athalseptal defect.
On physical examination, the hard palpable mass was noted on the right upper eye lid
and it was excised
On microscopic examination, the diagnosis of granulocytic sarcoma was made and the
peripheral blood smears and bone marrow examination were diagnostic of acute
granulocytic leukemia(FAB class M2 type).
